Explore Madrid from a different perspective on a running route. A healthy alternative to discover every corner of the city.
The Spanish capital has a lot to see and, if you want to combine tourism with your daily fitness routine, there's no better plan than going for a run in Madrid.
In this article we recommend the best places to run in Madrid during your trip. Whether you are an amateur or a running enthusiast, we invite you to discover the joy of running in the streets of Madrid.
The best places to go running in Madrid
From green parks to the wide, empty streets of the city centre at dawn, Madrid is the ideal setting for either long or short distance running. Here are some of the best places to run in Madrid:
El Retiro
Surely the most popular place among Madrid's runners, the park has a 4.5 km perimeter and several marked routes. Running in Madrid's El Retiro is a must-do experience for running enthusiasts, and an opportunity to discover the architectural wonders and landscapes of the city's green lung.
Madrid Río
Another fantastic alternative for a run in nature is this park on the banks of the Manzanares River. It offers more than 10 km of course with distance indicators on the ground, as well as a wide range of sports facilities.
Casa de Campo
With an approximate length of 17 kilometres, the Casa de Campo route is ideal for the sportier. The lake offers a spectacular setting for running while enjoying nature.
Parque del Oeste
Very close to the Temple of Debod, in the district of Moncloa, this large green space offers one of the best settings for a race in Madrid. It is one of the most challenging routes due to its unevenness and the changes between asphalt and dirt.
Madrid centre
If you prefer to run at dawn or at night, you can do a tourist run through the city centre, through Gran Vía and Puerta del Sol, head to the Paseo del Prado or jog past the Royal Palace and the Almudena Cathedral.
